UAXACTÚN - DOS LAGUNAS - RÍO AZUL
In the heart of the Maya Biosphere Reserve, Uaxactún has been the center of ample research for archaeologists since the early
times the Maya World came to the open. This site belongs to the Pre-Classic period and it has always been related to the research and understanding of the the Maya calendar and the interpretation of their time, the universe and life cycles. Uaxactún is nowadays a forest community committed to the preservation of the tropical forest with non degrading agricultural activities such as the famous chicle sap tapping, xate-palm fronds gathering for export, allspice collection for trading in the local and international markets as well as a series of non timber forest products. These activities oppose directly looting of archaeological sites, illegal poaching and hunting of protected fauna and illegal logging. Our Community in Uaxactun is the host for this jungle adventure in 4x4 to the famous fresco tombs of Río Azul and Dos Lagunas Natural Reserve and protected areas in El Mirador-Río Azul National Park.
