This package is operated with the community people of La Máquina and with the assitance of El Sombrero Eco-Lodge a long time conservationist and community supporter. They have a wide experience and knowledge of the area specially the Yaxhá- Nakum- Naranjo triangle of Northeast Petén, which also includes the remote areas of Río Azul and Dos Lagunas Biotope. Both, El Sombrero Eco-lodge and the Community of La Máquina are true supporters of low impact sustainable tourism in protected areas.
7:00 Transfer from Flores to Campamento El Sombrero on the shores of the lagoon of Yaxhá, 72 Km. East of Flores. Motor boat trip and guided to the island of Topoxté, the largest of the few Post-classic Mesoamerican sites in the area, visit the archaeological site.
Return to the lodge for lunch. Afternoon visit of Yaxhá. Yaxhá is located 30 kilometers to the southeast of Tikal and boasts plazas and an acropolis which are interconnected by "sacbes", or artificial pathways. The hieroglyphic inscriptions indicate that it was inhabited during the Early Classic period and the Late Classic period. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
6:30 Breakfast at Campamento El Sombrero. Departure on horseback to Nakum, passing through the cup of La Justa, approximately 4 hours ridding and trekking. Arrival and box lunch at Nakum.
Visit of the impressive archaeological site and excavation works by the Guatemalan Institute of Anthropology and History.
Dinner at camp.
Camp and overnight at Nakum, hammocks and mosquito nets are provided for a good night rest in the heart of the jungle. You will be fascinated by the sounds of the night.
7:00 After breakfast, horseback ride to Tikal or back to Campamento El Sombrero. Transfer to Flores.
Day three can be modified to continue to Tikal National Park and extend your stay at Tikal National Park.
